On March 4, 2020, the Rule of Law Collaborative (ROLC) hosted Professor Jonathan A. Eddy, an expert in legal reform, at the University of South Carolina for a lunch gathering with faculty and students. Professor Eddy is Program Director for the U.S. Department of State-funded Legal Education Support Program–Afghanistan (LESPA), where he is responsible for oversight of the project, designing study programs, and providing professional mentoring for a cohort of Afghan law professors from Kabul University and leading provincial law schools in Afghanistan. He also rejoined the University of Washington School of Law faculty in July 2005 and served as the Director of the Asian Law Center from 2010 to 2013.

At the lunch, Professor Eddy spoke to ROLC Associates, Core Faculty, staff, and students regarding his extensive international career working in legal reform in Indonesia, Ethiopia, and Afghanistan. In the course of that discussion, he shared lessons learned about designing, managing, funding, and evaluating legal education programs and rule of law programs generally, gleaned from his decades of experience. The talk was then followed by an open discussion with faculty.
