The Rule of Law Collaborative (ROLC) congratulates the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) on receiving the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize. According to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, WFP was chosen “for its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to improve conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas, and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.” WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian organization focused on hunger and promoting food security. Since 2017, WFP has been led by former South Carolina Governor David Beasley, who is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina School of Law. ROLC recognizes the important role that WFP’s efforts has played in improving the lives of vulnerable populations and strengthening the rule of law globally.
