The struggle for peace, justice, human rights and equality continues in much of the world, and women are increasingly serving as formidable change agents.
Please join us on February 21st for a Keynote Conversation with Dr. Mamphela Ramphele, a South African anti-apartheid activist, and on February 22nd for interactive panel discussions. Panels are organized thematically and focus on the specific strategies women have used in achieving the following goals: I) Human Rights Education for All Women; II) Access to Justice; and III) Good Governance; and IV) Participation and Leadership in the Justice Sector.
The full-day symposium on February 22nd will feature women change agents from around the globe including:
- Patricia Nyaundi, a Kenyan activist who pioneered the “160 Girls project” which focused on addressing the root causes of sexual violence
- Sue Berkowitz, director of the South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center
- Judge Teresa Doherty, international judge who convicted rebel soldiers in Sierra Leone on the crime of “forced marriage” as a crime against humanity
- Brenda Hollis, first woman to prosecute a sitting head of state, former President of Liberia, Charles Taylor
