On April 16, 2024, the University of South Carolina’s Rule of Law Collaborative (ROLC) Deputy Executive Director, Steven Austermiller, met with a high-level delegation of Kosovo legal and judicial leaders to discuss ongoing and future collaboration to improve the legal sector in Kosovo.
The delegation included Kosovo Supreme Court President Fejzullah Rexhepi, Chair of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council Ardian Hajdaraj, Chief State Prosecutor Besim Kelmendi, and Kosovo Justice Academy Director Enver Fejzullahu. Hosted at the USC School of Law, the meeting also featured USC Law Dean William Hubbard and officials from the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Advocacy Center.
Discussions focused on U.S. support for Kosovo’s legal system and explored potential areas of expanded cooperation, including judicial training and legal reforms. The engagement highlights the continued partnership between U.S. institutions and Kosovo’s legal community, reinforcing efforts to enhance judicial effectiveness, transparency, and professional development within Kosovo’s legal sector.
This collaboration underscores the United States’ commitment to fostering strong legal institutions in Kosovo, supporting stability, and advancing shared democratic values through capacity-building initiatives and technical assistance.
