On September 7, 2024, the University of South Carolina’s Rule of Law Collaborative (ROLC) conducted an alpha test of the Gold Heist simulation, a recent addition to its simulation portfolio. This simulation is designed to provide a half day, learning rich, team-building simulation, located in the fictional country of Alterkhan. In addition to serving as a team-building exercise, the simulation is geared towards building on participants’ substantive knowledge base, including mineral trafficking, money laundering, homicide investigation, public corruption, comparative law, judicial ethics, and law enforcement training. The simulation is also intended to develop empathy and understanding for the complicated work of host-country, justice sector partners. For this alpha test, ROLC invited University of South Carolina community members and Columbia, South Carolina community members more broadly to participate.

ROLC looks forward to testing the simulation for a second time on October 5, 2024 and rolling out the training to government staff in Washington, DC later this year. Columbia, SC community members who are interested in participating in the second simulation test should register here. The alpha test took place in Columbia, South Carolina, under the auspices of the Justice Sector Training, Research and Coordination 3 Program (JUSTRAC 3), which is funded by U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
