On February 24, 2022, the Russian Federation launched the full-scale stage of the war against Ukraine which started in March 2014. According to the United Nations International Organization for Migration, as of March 11, 2022, there were estimated 6.48 million internally displaced Ukrainians. Also, the UN agencies report that over five million Ukrainians have fled the war and relocated abroad. Many of these people have their specific legal needs that should be addressed. USC-ROLC is working with the Association of Ukrainian Law Clinics to assess these legal needs, find the most pressing gaps, helping develop and run a legal clinic program. The program anticipates focusing on assisting Ukrainians document their property losses due to the Russian aggression in Ukraine. These losses include business losses, homes lost, possessions destroyed, and many other damages. While the remedies for these losses are yet to be finalized, USC-ROLC’s legal clinic program will help Ukrainians document these losses and provide support for seeking remedies.
