During a campus visit by Mr. Seth Oteng, founder and Executive Director of the Youth Bridge Foundation, Mr. Oteng sat down with Rule of Law Collaborative Research Director Kiel Downey for a conversation about youth engagement, governance, and rule of law in sub-Saharan Africa. Recognizing Africa’s overwhelmingly young demographics, Mr. Oteng challenges the narrative of the “youth bulge and instability thesis,” focusing instead on opportunities for youth engagement and development. Reflecting on themes discussed at the “Youth and the Rule of Law in sub-Saharan Africa” symposium in South Africa, the interview addresses civic engagement, the challenges young people face, and challenges to governance and rule of law in the region.
