From November 11 to 14, the Rule of Law Collaborative participated in the 16+ Forum Annual Showcase and organized a g7+ follow-up meeting that took place on November 15. Both events took place in Dili, Timor-Leste. The 16+ Forum focused on best practices for implementing Sustainable Development Goal 16, which calls for improvements in rule of law and access to justice, institution strengthening, and violence prevention.
At the Showcase, ROLC Senior Fellow Herman von Hebel moderated “People-Centered Justice: Making the System(s) Work for All,” a panel that explored ways to ensure that justice initiatives take the population’s needs as their basis. In addition, ROLC Senior External Relations Officer Anthony Triolo gave an overview of the Justice for All Report of the Task Force on Justice.
Following the Showcase, ROLC and the g7+ Secretariat organized a one-day follow-up meeting for g7+ countries, with specific emphasis on access to justice. The meeting was attended by high-level government representatives of g7+ countries, ROLC staff, donor representatives, g7+ Secretariat staff, and other partners. Building on the discussions from the June 2019 Ministerial Meetings, attendees gained greater perspective on good practices in people-centered justice and opportunities for donor support for increasing access to justice, goals in line with SDG 16.
